How To Make A Undertale Sprite
(It's my first time doing a tutorial so if there are some stuff that are still confusing, just tell me.
Seeing that so many people wants to do an Undertale Battle Sprite of their own made me want to do my little Tutorial on how to make a battle sprite in Undertale!
Jun 25, 2016 #1:Go on google, and search up the name of the Sprite that you want. #2:Go to images #3:Right-Click the Sprite that you want. #4:Click the option “Save image as” #5:Then save the Sprite to your computer.
Also, i need to say that these aren't done quickly. They take quite a while to make, especially if you decide to animate them (the animation isn't in the tutorial thought). So you gotta be patient.
First, you need, well, an app to draw. I HIGHLY reccomand you to use Artstudio. It costs 5.79, but there is also a lite version. I'm not sure if it works really well to do what we want to do thought.
Second, you need to sketch. Get yourself a random canva and start drawing possible battle sprites! How you'd want it to look like!
Once you find the battle sprite you want, crop the canva by selecting the aera of the drawing you want, go on Menu -> Image -> Crop to selection. Then export the picture, so it looks like this.
Then, you need a reference for the sprite size. I usually make my characters really tall, so i used Papyrus' sprite. Go on File -> Import -> Create new image -> import from Photos. Import the sprite ref.
Theere~ we got out ref sprite. We only use it as a reference for the Canva's size thought. So we won't need it anymore. Next, import the sketch. File -> Import -> Insert as layer -> import from Photos. Import the sketch.
It'll automatically scale down to the Canvas' size, and that's what we want. You got your sketch ready, now you gotta get your tool. I use a 2x2 brush that i made myself, since you can't have a 2x2 brush normally. To make a brush, just draw the size of the brush you want, then File -> Export -> PNG -> Save as custom brush. Don't forget to select 'hard edge' by clicking the pen option twice and scrolling down, or else it'll be a soft edge and that's not what we want here.
Make a new layer, then start following the lines of the sketch. It's okay if it doesn't look like an actual sprite yet, it will later. I suggest making different layers for different parts of the body, and do em of different colors. To help you not mix up the lines.
There. Now we got out head and our ears done. That's a good start! Now we need to make it look more sprite-ish, because it doesn't look like a sprite right now. Take the eraser tool, but it on size 0.5 and on Hard Edge mode., then start erasing.
Basically we want the thing to look like this. It looks much cleaner!
Repeat the process until you got yourself a nice surface that looks like this. And then you continue until you're done!
There! Doesn't that look good? Let's remove the sketch.
Yaa there we go there we go. Looks good doesn't it? But it's not finished yet. We need to color inside. Basically, the lighter colors gets filled in white, and the darkest colors gets filled in black. And don't forget! When you color something in black, change the outline to White. So we see the outlines. If you want to change the colors of your lines without having to do them all over, go on the 'Layer' option and click on the little 'a' then color over the lines you want.
It'll look like this when you're done. Now's time to color for real!
Doesn't that look good? Be proud of your work! Now, save it in PNG, to keep the transparence of the bg. If you're pleased with your work, you can stop there. But if you want to do a battle screen, keep reading because that's where we're heading!

Now you gotta go on file -> import -> create new image -> import from photos and take the template.
I modified it so it looks like a screen with the flavor text on it. So yeah it should look like this. Import the sprite by importing it from photos.
It should land like this. Right in the middle. Now, select the sprite, go on Edit -> Transform -> Move. And do your best to keep its position to the middle. Only make the sprite go up.
And it should look like this.
Now's the time to write the flavor text. Unfortunately, it seems as if it is impossible to insert new fonts on iPod. So you gotta copy paste all the letters or do like me, make a new tool for every letters. The font i reccomand you to use are DETERMINATION SANS and DETERMINATION MONO, which can be found HERE along with Monster Friend, the font of the Undertale Logo, for the Flavor Text. But if, like me, you already made a tool for every letters of 8-Bit Operator, then use 8-bit Operator thought not the one i reccomand for a realistic look. For the name, use the ridiculously-named font 'Mars needs Cunnilingus', which can be found HERE.
