Jack Hollandmy 4518 won't start. The switch checks bad but when wired around it the tractor still won't start, no spark in spark plugs. The CDI box checked good. What am I missing?

larryccfthere's a pretty active honda lawn tractor forum over on another forum - i don't know if the rules here allow for posting another web's url - if you'll email me i can shoot it to you
i've got a 3813, which is a different ign system but i've seen threads on a 2nd relay or black box next to or behind the steering column that has had issues with contacts coming loose internally - and some members reporting successfully wrapping that box with tape to hold the leads exiting tight -
fom what i recall, the complaint was those go out commonly and cost $200 +
you might go first to http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/LAWN%20TRACTOR/0/parts.html for the parts schematics for the various honda tractors
then check your model (believe there's 3 or 4 listed for the 4518 so you'll need your serial number) but then once there, 'check under wiring harness' or ign system to identify the ignition control units - iirc there'll be one termed engine control unti and one other

TomJack, How did you test the CDI? If you have Honda's shop manual they show a troubleshooting flow chart that lists 7 steps, the last few are in this order..the combination switch, pulser coil, 12v at the Y/BU wire on the CDI, then the combination relay. If all these check out then replace the CDI unit..process of elimination since CDI testing equipment is scare with its $600 and up price tag. The CDI is very often the problem in H4518 no spark conditions. Tom
tom yanirocan you email me any info on the honda 4013 riding mower. i can't find any info on it. thanks
BartI have a 4518 that does something similar. It runs for about 30 minutes then quits suddenly. After the engines stops, I can hear a rapid tapping sound coming from under the seat. This sound ceases if I get off the seat. The tractor will start again immediately but only runs for about a minute before stopping again. Its as if I only does this after the tractor gets warm. Any suggestions?
