1
Add 2.6 ounces of 50-to-1 ratio 2-cycle engine oil to a fuel container. Add 1 gallon of gasoline to the container, place the top on the container and shake to mix. Pour the mix into the fuel tank on the trimmer.
2
Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug for safety while replacing the trimmer line. Hold the trimmer head and turn the spool counterclockwise, and then pull to remove it from the head. Pull the old line off the spool and discard.
3
Cut two lengths of .080-inch diameter trimmer line that are both 9 feet long with snips from a filler spool. Insert the end of one 9-foot length into the hole in the upper line channel on the spool. Wind the line counterclockwise onto the spool. Leave 6 inches of the line extending from the spool and secure the line in the notch on the side.
4
Insert an end of the other 9-foot length of line into the hole in the lower line channel on the spool. Wind the line counterclockwise, leaving 6 inches extended, and secure it in the notch on the opposite side of the spool.
5
Feed the lines through the holes in the trimmer head. Secure the spool in the head and pull the lines to release them from the notches.
6
Start the trimmer by placing it on the ground. Move the control switch to the 'On' position. Push the primer bulb eight times.
7
Move the choke lever to the 'Choke' position and press the trigger throttle. Pull the starter cord until the engine attempts to start but no more than six times to prevent flooding the engine. Move the choke lever to the 'Half Choke' position.
8
Pull the starter cord to start the engine and continue to press the trigger throttle. Run the engine for at least 30 seconds, release the trigger throttle and move the choke lever to the 'Run' position.
9
Keep the trimmer at full throttle while operating with the front edge of the trimmer line tilted slightly down toward the grass or weeds.
10
Tap the bottom of the trimmer head on the ground to advance line from the head for cutting grass and weeds. Tap the head up to three times to advance line as needed.
